About
Dr. Terrence E. Brown
Dr. Terrence E. Brown is Professor of Technology-Based Entrepreneurship at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. For 18 years he has been the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing, a peer-reviewed journal indexed in Scopus.
He holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Strategy from Rutgers University, where his 1996 dissertation won the NFIB Dissertation Award from the Academy of Management as the best dissertation in the field of entrepreneurship, and a second Ph.D. in Industrial Marketing from Luleå University of Technology. His 2018 doctoral thesis there introduced the consumer digital twin: a digital model of an individual consumer, built from data, that can be asked how that person would think and act. It anticipated the AI persona and synthetic audience tools that arrived years later, and warned early about their weakest point, the quality of the data they are built on. He also holds MBAs from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and from Rutgers, and an A.B. with Honors from Brown University.
Dr. Brown is a former Dean of the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and has directed programs at KTH and the Scandinavian International Management Institute. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, spoken at MIT and international conferences, and advised student teams that went on to win international venture competitions.
His current research focuses on value creation through starting, growing and transforming businesses, on startups and artificial intelligence, on innovative business models, and on non-traditional marketing strategies and techniques. His forthcoming book, Know, Like, Trust, is about how businesses earn the trust their growth depends on.
